Dear Hebrew Academy Family,
“Academic Excellence – One Child at a Time”
As we celebrate our Fortieth Anniversary, I would like to wish Mazal Tov to our esteemed honourees, Marty and Rene Lieberman. Their leadership and passion for our school is legendary and I am personally awed by their accomplishments. They serve as personal role-models for each and every one of us for their Chesed and their willingness to step up to the proverbial “plate,” regardless of what is asked of them. May they be Zocheh (merit) to see Nachat from their children and from all of their accomplishments.
Forty is not just any random number. In fact in Jewish tradition the number forty represents completion. Moshe was on top of Mt. Sinai for forty days. The flood during the time of Noach was for forty days. Finally, there are forty days from the beginning of the month of Elul until Yom Kippur.
Forty also represents being prepared to take the next step. After the forty days on Mt. Sinai, we were ready for our destiny. Following the forty years in the wilderness, the nation was prepared to enter the land of Israel. Our precious school, Hebrew Academy, following forty years of growth, expansion and most importantly, “Excellence in Education,” is ready for the future. We have a long history of accomplishments to be proud of and build upon. Our alumni have become leaders in our Montreal community and beyond. They are prestigious members of their professional communities and have been recognized internationally for their accomplishments. Regardless of where life has led them, they all received their start here at our school. Their success is our pride.
“Academic Excellence” isn’t a phrase that we take lightly; it is what guides us every day. As we look towards the future, our vision is clear. Our academic program is constantly being scrutinized from every angle in order to elevate the calibre of each department and make positive changes. In addition to our “CESI” accredited academic program, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to strengthen the experiential programming that our school is known for. Through Shabbatonim, Field Trips, Colour-War, Retreats, Yom Tov celebrations and our partnering with different communal agencies; we are driven in our mandate to touch the Neshama (Jewish soul) of every Talmid or Talmidah.
This year marks the end of our first forty years, however it is not the end of a journey, it is the beginning of a new one – a journey that is built upon the accomplishments of the past forty years that paves the way for our future.
Mazal Tov once again to Marty & Rene, our honourees, and Mazal Tov to our parents, students, alumnus and to everyone who takes pride in our school.
Be Strong, Be Strong and May We be Strengthened!
With Torah Blessings,
Rabbi Boruch Perton
Educational Director
